Bringing 3D Printing Into Australian Homes

When innovation meets reality television, magic happens. Back in 2022, 3D concrete printing stepped onto the national stage with The Block, Australia’s most-watched home renovation show.

The project? A sleek, modern 3D-printed pool cabana that impressed and showed millions of Australians what the future of building looks like.

The Block has a reputation for pushing design and construction boundaries. From cutting-edge interiors to bold architectural statements, the show thrives on fresh ideas. So for The Block 2025 in Daylesford, Macro3D was invited to showcase our robot 3D printer.

Macro3D Printer The Block Daylesford

We were tasked with printing 5 poolside cabanas – structures that needed to be stylish, durable, and completed in tight timeframes. The catch… it had to be done in 5 days!!

The result? Elegant structures that blended seamlessly into the luxury home designs while standing as a showcase of innovation.

We hope you enjoy watching this new technology build the pool cabanas.

Our 3D concrete printer is the third version of the machine that Tom Macrokanis has built.

For viewers at home, the cabanas were a cool new feature. But for developers, investors, and industry leaders, the project demonstrated four critical things:

  • Speed: The cabanas were printed in hours, not days—cutting build time without cutting corners.
  • Design Freedom: Smooth curves and unique forms were created with ease, showcasing what’s possible beyond straight walls and sharp edges.
  • Sustainability: 3D printing uses only the material required, producing far less waste than traditional methods.
  • Scalability: If you can print a cabana, you can print an entire home, community housing project, or even disaster relief shelters.

What began as a television moment became a national proof of concept.

For us at Macro3D, it was validation. We knew what the technology could achieve, but showing it on prime-time television helps the public – and the industry – see its potential first-hand.

The pool cabanas on The Block at Daylesford, Victoria, weren’t just about entertainment.
They were about sparking a conversation Australia desperately needs.

We’re facing a housing crisis. Costs are rising, supply can’t keep up, and traditional construction methods are struggling. By demonstrating 3D printing live on TV, Macro3D proved that there are smarter, faster, and more sustainable ways to build.

The cabanas were small, but the implications are huge:

  • Rapid builds for housing estates.
  • Affordable homes in regional areas.
  • Emergency shelters after natural disasters.
  • Stylish, custom designs at scale.

Macro3D: Leading the Future of Building

Our appearance on The Block is just the beginning.

3D concrete printing can deliver:

  • Faster project timelines for developers under pressure.
  • Lower costs through reduced labour and waste.
  • Sustainable outcomes that meet ESG goals for investors.
  • Design freedom that architects and buyers love.

We’re proud that millions of Australians will have first discovered 3D printed construction through our work on The Block. But we’re even prouder that our machines are Australian-made with Tom Macrokanis‘ technology.

Ready to Build Smarter?

Whether you’re a developer searching for faster delivery, an investor looking for scalable innovation, or a government body seeking sustainable housing solutions, Macro3D is ready to help.

The pool cabanas, as seen on The Block, were just the start. The future of housing is already being printed, and it’s time to get on board.
